I’ve started off October with fresh bar tape and a gran fondo.

This photo illustrates the problem with not riding enough. I don’t wear out bar tape fast enough so my skill at wrapping is not practiced as it once was, back in the days of cheap vela tapes I changed on a near monthly basis.
My first week, well eight days worth of the month I managed to ride five the days. Eighteen hours for 433 kilometers. 4,408 meters of climbing. I went a bit too hard the last day of riding for a five hour day out. That followed by a day of motorcycle maintenance in the heat ended my eight days. What I’ve learned is that I am able to ride 100km days back to back, if I don’t go too big on any day. I’ll still need rest day here and there in a week.
Progress.

And then I got a cold. I’ve spent a week not so much battling, but trying not to aggravate this cold brought to me by our grandson thanks to his pre-schooler pals. I tread carefully with any cold thanks to my experiences with pneumonia. Yes, I am up to date with my pneumonia vaccination. Our other vaccinations will be updated in the near future thanks to finally getting appointments scheduled. This infection seems to bother me most in the wee hours of the morning after I have rolled onto my back for too long. I wake hacking and coughing for around an hour before I slip back into slumber.
This is the way the month went after the first week of riding well. I’ve ended the month fighting a sinus infection. Just the usual viral infection that makes life feel bleh. Here’s hoping November brings some relief and a return to the road.

Totals for the month:
Distance: 433 km
Climbing: 4,408 m
Time: 18 hours
