The Beach to Riverside Ranch, then 3 Step Hideaway

Oh, no Mr Hands!

Not quite Day 1, yet, but closing fast. All the electronics are current for firmware and app updates. Maps are all updated both on the phone and navigation tablet. Fluids are topped off, the Wolfman Rocky Mountain bags and enduro tank bag are mounted. Packing is underway.

The heat dome is looming into the area I will cross and be playing in for a week or so. Plans have been shelved for an extended version due to the weather and other stuff.

I’d not cleaned that helmet since last summer. The visor sure was grubby. I’ll be packing a summer down blanket for the hot weather sleeping along with my usual mummy.

First day will be a long hot interstate run from the coast to campground in Hatch Utah.

Cedar City, Utah it is better than 100°F. Shade is good. Guzzled this large bottle of electrolyte and a second of water. Filled my hydration pack and re-filled my electrolyte bottle and headed for Cedar Canyon over to US 89 to Hatch and my campsite at Riverside Ranch.

My campsite was great. All alone by the river. If you look close you can just see over the left of the fairing.

I had got on the road around 4am. Warm and. humid made for a foggy face screen. My first gas stop at Barstow shops south of town. Water, fuel and a natural break back on the road. It was already mid-90’s at Barstow and 110°F by my Las Vegas fuel stop. I stopped again in Mesquite to get water along with fuel and another natural break. Then topped up at the Cedar City exit and on to the camp site.

Day Two

Off to 3 Step Hideaway.

Up early, breakfast of instant porridge and coffee. This morning I needed my mid-layer Adventure Spec Hybrid jacket to fend off the more than welcome chill after the previous days pizza oven temperatures. The Riverside Ranch was perfect. A quiet near the river grassy tent spot provided a good nights sleep for me.

Packed up and headed north on US 89 to I-70 east bound. First stop was Richfield for fuel. Then back on I-70 to Green River, fuel and water. Then off at US-191 south through Moab and down to 3 Step hideaway.

After I arrived, I unloaded and got a shower. Paul and his son arrived while I was cleaning up and unloaded. Dinner and early to bed, ready to begin our adventure the next morning.
